Good Morning Rebels!
How are the Friday Feels Feeling ? Ready for the weekend?
I might just have a little bit of extra help for some of you to enjoy your time off however! Todays Episode of Ibiza: The Reset Rebel podcast features my final interview with the guests of TedX Dalt Vila and hitting episode 210 today feels like a huge milestone this year and might just whet your appetite in more ways than one, for what’s is still to come as the end of week rolls IN !
Dr. Marta Recio Rodriguez is a specialist in sexology and regenerative gynecology, with a clinical and academic focus on women’s sexual health, anatomy, and wellness.
Her work explores the intersection between medical science, psychology, and the cultural narratives that have historically shaped — and often silenced — the conversation around female pleasure. Anyone watched the film Hysteria? (Trailer)
Throughout her career, Marta has listened to countless women share their deepest fears, insecurities, and questions — many of which are still wrapped in stigma or shame and she says women’s sexual pleasure has long been pushed to the margins of both medicine and society.
So today, we’re flipping the script as Marta invites us to re-examine the science, the silence, and the societal blind spots as she did in her talk 2 weeks ago when I hosted her on stage with: “The Clitoris: The Story of the Button No One Can Find." - Coming soon to Ted X Youtube, but first I hope you learn something in todays episode HERE - Feel free to share the podcast with someone who might find it of interest! Yes! You´re welcome. Happy Friday.
So, TEDx was intense!! But, a HUGE and ROARING Success!! I absolutely loved the whole experience in honesty and in year three, despite the usual melt down two minutes before going on stage in front of 500 people, I am happy to say I think I finally nailed it in terms of routine, regime, support and run up. I felt Amazing.
Despite planning my outfit weeks in advance, I ended up buying a last minute RED suit, to match the letters on stage from Mango of all places! Random decision, but as soon as I popped it on, it felt right and I was so happy to match Marta in Red who gave the Clitoris Talk, as you see us both above!
What I loved most about TEDX this year, was the fact there was such a focus on females and our anatomy and a real sense of empowerment and breaking taboos!
My other absolute favourite talk, was by Kath Berry talking about Sexercise for Menopause. She made me laugh so many times I had to leave side of stage, even though I have seen her talk ten times already, to watch her in action and 500 people giggling was just EPIC!! She worked so stupidly HARD on that talk, I felt so proud of her that it really landed in the way she had hoped.
I can´t wait to share these links when they are edited and start to drop so you can watch them all very very soon!!
The other talk I struggled to listen to again was Sierra Campbell on Death. Every single time I hear it I cry!! So at great risk of smudging my mascara and trashing my make up, I hid in the back room until it was over. It just gets me! EVERY TIME!
Last but by no means Least was Oscar Camps who runs Open Arms.
Òscar is a Barcelona born Catalan lifeguard, entrepreneur and activist and was the owner of a lifeguard company based in Badalona, Pro-Activa Serveis Aquatics, which was dedicated to maritime services. Specifically focussing on water security and lifeguarding.
In the context of the European Migrant crisis during the Syrian Civil war when thousands were losing their lives trying to reach us, Camps decided to move to Lesbos a Greek island near Turkey to evaluate the situation on the ground.
The key event that prompted him to move was the posting of images of the body of Alan Kurdi a three-year-old boy who had died while trying to cross the border with his family. He and a few colleagues who decided to apply their lifesaving expertise to help rescue refugees trying to reach the European Union via the Aegean Sea.
During his talk, which was in Spanish, I placed the Translation headphones on and listened to the full depth of his words and work which I hadn´t until that point and again the tears welled up as I listened to the story of 72,000 lives he has saved since he started this work and got off his butt and took serious action.
Many of us are armchair activists and sign online petitions, but his work to actually go forth and create such huge life saving work for me, is a huge inspiration and reminded me of this mini documentary / podcast I made during the pandemic about what happens to migrants coming from Algeria to Formentera and Ibiza:
I am still processing in honesty and recovery after such an incredible week of connections, people, opportunity, networking, socialising, mingling, training, practising, writing, planning, prepping, outfit shopping, starving myself a bit (yes, I sill have that wierd thing going on) freaking out, stressing and intense nervousness.
This is probably the last email you will get on TEDx as I feel I have sent you SO many! But to say it has been immense is a huge understatement!
To say we partied a little bit in true Ibiza style after the event, is also an understatement!! But the best bit? My Dad stayed out with us, who flew in especially, until 4am at 88 years of age!! Legend!! In fact I had to force him to go home :)
Much fun was had by all at Atzaro and at the after party and after after party, but by George we deserved that little Blow Out at the end of all of that of after such a Huge build up!!
Formentera for a whole weekend, last weekend was a massive relief and much needed way to rest and sleep and do very little, but we did find a stunning NEW restaurant, Trasteando - a MUST not Miss!! It is not a beach club vibe or hugely pricey, but the food was amazing and it is nestled in the little town of Sant Ferran de Ses Roques and I highly recommend it, as you won´t find it organically otherwise.
Ok! That is me, Over and Out for now.
A new Episode of Beat Wala lands today too, with the mighty Mr Mathew Bushwacka.
Will write more on that next week!
Have a wonderful weekend !!
Love
Jo
